The Love of God

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
‭‭John‬ ‭3:16‬ ‭KJV‬‬

It is February, the month we celebrate Valentine’s Day. I’m not going to get into the history of it and all that, but it is a day that we now celebrate to show people in our lives that we love them. It is a pretty commercialized holiday in my opinion.

But during this month so far, I have been thinking about the love of God quite a bit. Just stop for a moment and just think about God’s love for you.

It’s amazing. I don’t know how else to explain God’s love. His love was pictured for all eternity by Jesus Christ dying on the cross for our sins, and rising again to conquer death. That gift of God is so amazing and it started with God’s love for us.

I texted a buddy the other day with this quote/question I had heard: “Do you realize that God would rather die than live without you? That’s how much He loves you!” God loves us so much that about 2,000 years ago, He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to die for our sins. Christ paid that sin debt we owe with His blood and ultimately by dying. But the greatest of all miracles is that He rose again for me and for you, because He loved us!

One of my favorite songs about God’s love was written by Fredrick M. Lehman. The third verse and chorus contain my favorite lines in the song:

Could we with ink the ocean fill,
And were the skies of parchment made;
Were every stalk on earth a quill,
And every man a scribe by trade;
To write the love of God above
Would drain the ocean dry;
Nor could the scroll contain the whole,
Though stretched from sky to sky.

O love of God, how rich and pure!
How measureless and strong!
It shall forevermore endure—
The saints’ and angels’ song.

God’s love is so amazing and so wonderful, we could sit here all day and try to explain it and would never come close to describing it all!

Why do we as Christians, take the love that God has shown us and take it to our fellow neighbor and those around us. Not just to those that can help us in life but to those that are helpless and hopeless, those are the ones that need to see God’s love through us!

Just as we are called to be a light to this dark world, we are called to love others.

“Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭22:37-40‬ ‭KJV‬‬
