How Is Your Prayer Life?

As for me, I will call upon God; and the LORD shall save me. Evening, and morning, and at noon, will I pray, and cry aloud: and he shall hear my voice.” (Psalms 55:16-17)

Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.” (Psalms 55:22)

I was reading Psalm 55 today and there were so many verses that stood out to me and helped me. But these three verses really convicted and encouraged me.

I asked myself, “How is my prayer life?”

The Bible speaks so much about prayer and for most Christians, it’s one of the things we probably do the least.

First thing I see is that prayer has to be personal.

As for me, I will call upon God…” Yes, people should pray for us. But we should be praying also. I have to pray. I shouldn’t expect anyone else to pray for my family if I’m not praying for my family. I shouldn’t expect anyone else to pray for my church if I’m not praying for my church. I shouldn’t expect anyone else to pray for my needs if I’m not praying for my own needs.

Prayer has to be a personal action. It has to be something we do on our own. We have to pray alone to God!

Second thing I see is that prayer should be perpetual.

“Evening, and morning, and at noon, will I pray…”

Pray without ceasing.” (1 Thessalonians 5:17)

Perpetual – occurring continually

We should live in an attitude of prayer. We should be continually talking to God. Maybe not out loud all the time, but we should live a life where everything we do is predicated on prayer.

When we wake up, while we go through the day, before we go to sleep, spend time talking to God. Ask Him for guidance through the day. Pray for others. Pray for wisdom. Learn to make God your best friend through prayer!

Lastly I see, the promise of prayer.

“Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and he shall sustain thee…”

The simple definition of cast – to cause to move or send forth by throwing.

We are told to throw our burdens upon the Lord. Stop carrying that weight, that problem, that heartache, stop carrying whatever is weighing you down in life and throw it on the Lord. The best way to do that is to pray. Ask Him for help. Ask Him for comfort. Ask Him for relief.

He wants to help you and me.

Sustain – to give support or relief to

It’s a promise. “He shall sustain thee.” The Lord will support you! The Lord will bring relief to you. The Lord will help you.

Pray!

Call on Him today!

Cast your burdens on Him!

He will hear you! He will help you!
