My favorite button on the keyboard at the moment is the ‘backspace’ button. Trust me, I have used it a lot recently as I have been trying to write a blog. This past weekend a guy told me that I just have to write, it may be bad, but it will get the bad out of the way for the good. So that is what I am doing.
The ‘backspace’ button is like an eraser for typing. I have typed out pointed, sometimes disrespectful, mean emails…but I have never hit sent and always hit the ‘backspace.’ Why? Because sometimes words can and will get you in trouble if not used correctly.
Whenever an argument escalates, it is usually done because someone said something that the other person doesn’t like. We do not have a ‘backspace’ button on our tongue. We can’t click ‘undo’ everytime we mess up in life.
God knew we were going to be prone to messing up, so He gave us His guidebook for life, the King James Bible, the Word of God. God gave to us the rules, that if we follow, we won’t need a ‘backspace’ or ‘undo’ button.
The problem is that we dwell on the mistakes of our past instead of trying to focus on the future. “Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,” Philippians 3:13 Paul, the chiefest of sinners, had to learn to move on and let go. He learned that if he held onto his past it would drag him down. Paul learned that if he kept looking back at his past failures and mistakes, he would never be able to see where he was supposed to go.
You don’t have a ‘backspace’ button or an ‘undo’ button in your life. So be careful what you say and how you act because you cannot take those back. But if you do mess up or say the wrong thing, learn from it and be better going forward.
