This past week, I have seen some social media posts and videos about Christians and Christianity that have rubbed me the wrong way.
Before I speak my mind, I will be the first to tell you that I am not perfect. If you know me, than you know that is the truth! I know I have a long way to go in the Christian life, but it is a journey and I am on that road…even though I have been and still get side tracked a little.
I get tired of hearing everyone else push their agenda and their opinion so I am going to push mine…which I try to line mine up with the Bible.
So this video I saw was a guy talking about how a lady judged him about his tattoos and he spent 6 minutes ranting on Christianity and religion and judging the lady that judged him….and the title of his video was “Don’t Judge A Book By It’s Cover.” I think that is ironic but whatever.
- The first thing that got me was that he said he was a Christian but he hated Christianity and religion because they were man-made and man run. So you are telling me that you are something you hate? The statement about Christianity and religion being man-made really got me because Christianity isn’t man-made. To become a Christian, you have to have Christ as your Saviour. Once you have Christ as your Saviour, you should live and follow what He teaches throughout the King James Bible, that is Christianity. Religion on the other hand is man-made…anything that replaces or adds to Christ as the one true God is a religion and is made by man.
- The next thing that got me is the statement about he made about church. He said that the most self-centered people in the world “go to this place called church.” Sounds like he is degrading the church. Now I understand that there all kinds of churches out there, but since I am a Baptist that goes to a Baptist church, I take this personal. Last time I checked Matthew 16:18 was still in the Bible. This verse says, “And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” Going to church is still important. If Jesus Christ, the author of our Christianity, made it important to go to church that Sunday night of His resurrection, than we should still make it a big deal to go to that place called church!
- So I had to get this next statement word for word so I can make my point. Here is what he said… “Christians fall into this world cycle where you can’t hang out with this person or you can’t associate with that person because they are not of equal yokes as you are. Or you can’t listen to that music, or you can’t be friends with that homosexual couple over there. Because they are not equal as you in the Christianity standpoint! Now I also understand that if you believe Christianity in the book of the Bible, there are certain things that you cannot support, because of your religion. I get that. But to separate yourself from those people entirely that you claim are the main reason, the main focus of Christianity which is to reach people that do not know God, have never heard the Word of God, or aren’t living the way the Bible says they are supposed to live. How are you going to do that if you consider yourselves better than them and you never associate. You see the Jesus I have a relationship with and the Bible I read teaches a much different message than that” – Graham I know that is a long statement and I tried to get it word for word as he said it…the link to the video is here, but continue to read and come back and watch. Well, the message that my Bible (King James Bible) teaches, is that to not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. “Be ye not unequally yoked with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.” II Corinthians 6:14-15, 17 My Bible teaches not to be yoked with unbelievers. My Bible teaches that if I am trying to live a righteous life, not to fellowship with unrighteousness. My Bible teaches light doesn’t have communion with darkness. My Bible teaches that Christ has no concord with Belial. My Bible teaches what part does have a believer have with an infidel. My Bible teaches to come out from them and separate myself from them and to touch not the unclean thing. You see, we are called to be witnesses of the Gospel to the sinner, that doesn’t mean I have to yoke up with them to win them….that is where you get lifestyle evangelism. I don’t have to associate with the homosexual crowd, the drunk crowd, the high crowd, the lustful crowd, to preach the Gospel to them. So yes, one of the things to being a Christian, to being a follower of Christ, is to be separated, to no be unequally yoked…that is the message my Bible teaches me.
- He wraps up his video “quoting” John 3:16 and he talks about God’s love. He says that we need to love the way God does and not judge people. I agree, we shouldn’t judge others, because we have to much in our own backyard to be pointing out the trash in someone else’s! Yes, God is love. God loved us so much that He sent His Son to die for us and for our sins. Why did God do this? Because, He hates sin so much that He created a place called Hell for that sin. We forget that God is a just and equal God. As much love as God has, He has hate. As much goodness as God has, He has wrath. So if God can love the sinner and hate the sin, don’t get mad when I try to do the same. We as Christians have lost our hatred for sin, in our quest to love others. If we truly hated sin and how it destroys lives, than we could truly love the sinner and be the witness they need.
I know some may like this and some may not, but like always, I try to back up my thoughts with the Word of God.
So I will end my rant with this, I will continue going to that place called church and I will continue to follow the message my Bible teaches by not being yoked with the unbeliever and I will do my dead level best to hate sin and love the sinner like God does.
Oh and by the way, the Bible still says, “Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the Lord.” Leviticus 19:28 The Merriam-Webster definition of tattoo is an indelible mark or figure fixed upon the body by insertion of pigment under the skin or by production of scars. Notice the word in common between the definition and the verse…the word ‘mark.’ I will let you come to your own conclusion on what God says about tattoos!
I think it’s neat that you created a logo (and a t-shirt) for your blog. I once wrote a story called S+4 about celebrating Solstice on Christmas Day, and I created a logo and some window stickers. I never tried to sell them, but I did give them away to some people who told me they enjoyed the story in my book. Keep at it.
