“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.”
Psalms 23:1-6 KJV
I have been thinking a lot about these verses the last few days. It’s amazing how different situations in life will bring certain verses into focus.
We had a good vacation out to Colorado and now we are getting back into the swing of things.
In the process of life, we all have rough patches we go through. The Bible has verses for any storm that we might face, any battle that must be fought and any problems we might go through.
During some rough moments this past week, this Psalm popped into my head and has stayed there. It is such a good, encouraging passage of Scripture for the Christian!
The first thing I notice is that we need to let the Lord lead, let Him be your Shepherd. Too often we create our own problems because we decide to lead ourselves. Let the Lord lead! He knows where you need to go! He knows how to get there! If the Lord knows how and where to lead you, why wouldn’t you let Him? He will lead you to and through the things that He knows you can handle!
The next thing I see is when we are following, there is no need to fear. You may go through the valleys, there is no need to fear if you are following the Lord. If you walk through the shadows, there is no need to fear if you are following the Lord. When you fear, you take your eyes off of the Lord.
The last thing I see from this passage is that there is provision in His presence. Too often, we wander too far away from the Lord and wonder why we aren’t receiving His blessing. Maybe it is because we are too far. When we stay close to Him, He will provide for us.
A shepherd will lead, a shepherd will protect and a shepherd will provide. But if a sheep goes off on his own, that sheep will wander, it will be fearful and it will wonder where its provision will come from.
We have a great Shepherd, there is no reason for us to go astray. Yet, we do. Stay close to the Lord and He will take care of you, no matter the problem or issue that you are going through.
